  • Travel may be required on occasion between Orano offices and Client sites

Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time, 37-hour week

Purpose of Position

The role of a Waste Management Consultant is to provide technical expertise and utilises relevant experience to deliver effective and tailored waste management solutions to a variety of clients in the UK nuclear industry for decommissioning. The role involves engaging with clients, collaborating with different functions with Orano and seeking to establish mutually beneficial partnerships with external organisations to deliver tangible value. The role might be required to support senior management in ensuring continuing success of the business by providing support to proposals/bids, delivering internal activities, and seeking and implementing improvement initiatives.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Delivering tasks in waste management, and in other areas as required, according to the contract specification to clients as per business priority.
  • Working with project managers to build waste management plans.
  • Contributing to business development by supporting proposals/bids, delivering internal activities and seeking and implementing improvement initiatives.
  • Developing and implement characterisation strategies and produce sampling and analysis plans.
  • Undertaking activities in support of continuous professional development.
  • Delivering high quality waste consultancy, train junior, and develop the team.

Preferred Role Requirements

The Waste Management team encourage diversity of thought and welcome applications of candidates with transferable skills that can be applied to our projects, therefore, there are no minimum role requirements and candidates will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

The preferred role requirements are as follows:

  • 5+ years relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in engineering, science or related field of study. Postgraduate qualification is desirable.
  • Membership of a recognised professional institution and a chartered status or equivalent professional status is preferred.
  • Experience working in the Nuclear industry.
  • Experience in producing waste management plans.
  • Experience of the full radioactive waste lifecycle, including high-level strategic studies to support decision-making at different stages of the lifecycle.
  • Experience of developing radioactive waste management strategies for waste processing, characterisation, treatment, packaging and disposal.
  • Experience in producing waste management plans.
  • Essential awareness of UK nuclear industry and nuclear fuel cycle, particularly of sources and origin of the waste.
  • Relevant knowledge of waste and environmental assessments, producing and submitting letters of compliance, environmental impact assessments and environmental permit application.
  • Understand the analytical tools and techniques/waste characterisation techniques for developing chemical, physical and radiological inventories of radioactive waste.
  • Understanding of statistical knowledge relating to the treatment of errors and population sampling.
  • Essential knowledge of principles of Best Available Techniques (BAT) assessments.
  • Ability to identify and develop suitable BAT waste processes to apply conditions for acceptance and waste acceptance criteria to different wastes.
  • Hold a minimum of ‘SC’ UK Security Clearance.
